Suspect caught for illegal sale of alcohol during lockdown

On 23 April 2020, Kathu Crime Prevention members namely Sgt. Ben Eiman and const. Blythe Jantjes and const. Beatriz Canchibato received information about liquor being sold illegally at a house in Kathu.

The members monitored the activities at the mentioned house and obtained a search warrant. Upon searching the house on 24 April 2020 at approximately 16:45 the members discovered various types of alcohol valued at R20 000.00 as well as cash amounting to R8 050.00. The liquor and cash were confiscated .

Constable Blythe Jantjes arrested a 47 year old male and charged him in terms of Regulation 11 B(4) of the Disaster Management Act, 2020 for the  prohibition on the sale of liquor.

The suspect will soon appear in the Kathu Magistrates court. 

The Station Commander of Kathu SAPS, Lt Col. Sandra Boshof applauded the members for their efforts in stamping down the authority of the state especially during the lockdown period.
