Cuban health workers support SA’s fight against Covid-19

A team of 217 health workers from Cuba arrived in Pretoria on Monday. President Cyril Ramaphosa called for Cuban president, Miguel Diaz-Canel’s help in South Africa’s fight against Covid-19.

The group consists of epidemiology, biostatistics and public health experts, physicians who will take charge of testing and supervision, engineers who will maintain healthcare equipment and experts who will provide technical advice to local experts.

“The Cubans will help a lot with the testing processes in communities, because that’s what they’re best at,” says Mosa Moshabela, dean of the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s department of nursing and public health.
