Three arrested for unlicensed firearm and cigarettes
WESTERN CAPE – In pursuit of suspects with no regard for the law, members of the Western Cape Flying Squad conducted a search operation on 12 May in Khayelitsha after being tipped off about an unlicensed firearm in the area.
This operation led members to a residence where two suspects aged 19 and 32 were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and ammunition.
The suspects are scheduled to make their court appearances in Khayelitsha on Friday 15 May.
In an unrelated joint operation, members of the K9 Unit, Crime Intelligence, Hawks and SARS followed up on information about cigarettes being smuggled from Polokwane to the Western Cape with a final destination in Grassy Park.
Investigations last night resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old male and the seizure of illicit cigarettes valued at R122 000, destined for the black market. Once charged, the suspect is scheduled to make a court appearance in Wynberg on charges relating to the Customs Act, Tobacco Products Control Act and the Disaster Management Act.
