Two suspects arrested after half a million worth of cigarettes found
CALVINIA – Two male suspects were arrested after the police stopped and searched a suspicious looking bakkie.
According to brig Mohale Ramatseba, police spokesperson, members of the Calvinia police were busy with patrols yesterday. At about 16:30 they noticed a suspicious white bakkie with two male suspects inside.
The police stopped and searched the bakkie, which led them to discover cigarettes to the value of R550 000. The cigarettes were confiscated and the two suspects aged 35 and 29 were immediately arrested.
The suspects will appear before the Calvinia magistrate’s court soon, while police investigation continues.
The cluster commander of Namakwa, brig Francis Hender, commended the vigilance and team work displayed by the members which led to the arrest of the suspects.
