Two arrested after cigarettes found in potato bag

POSTMASBURG – The police arrested two foreign nationals after cigarettes were found hidden inside a potato bag while their vehicle got searched at a roadblock.

Brig Mohale Ramatseba, police spokesperson, says members of Postmasburg SAPS closed down all roads leading into and out of the town on 15 May. The police wanted to monitor restricted movement of motorists and check for compliance in terms of permits.

A total of 450 vehicles were stopped and searched and traffic fines were also issued to motorists for traffic offences, says brig Ramatseba.

During the roadblock two foreign national males were arrested after the police found cigarettes hidden in a potato bag.

The two suspects, both aged 36, were charged for contravening the Disaster Management Act Regulations.
