Two off-duty cops net alleged illegal tobacco suspect

KIMBERLEY – Two off-duty police officers yesterday stopped a suspicious looking vehicle in Cassandra and found illegal tobacco products worth R15 000 stashed inside.

According to brig Mohale Ramatseba, police spokesperson, the officers found alleged illegal cigarettes, a hookah pipe and Boxer tobacco stashed under the seats and inside the spare wheel.

The 33-year-old suspect was issued a R5 000 fine for illegally transporting tobacco products during the lockdown period, says brig Ramatseba.

The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, lt gen Risimati Shivuri, commended the police officers for their vigilant police instinct, dedication and loyalty in serving their community, which led to this success.
