South Africa’s power problem is going to get worse over the next 5 years

Eskom estimated that, without additional capacity, an electricity supply shortfall of between 4000 and 6000 megawatts could take place over the next five years, as old coal power stations reach the end of their life span.

To address this shortfall, President Ramaphosa said that the government would issue a request for proposals for 2600 megawatts, from wind and solar energy, over the next few weeks.
