LONDON.- Hollywood star Johnny Depp will seek permission on Thursday to appeal against his defeat in a libel case last year, after a tabloid article labeled him as a wife beater.
Last November
Last November, High Court Judge Andrew Nicol ruled that Depp had violently assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard during their tempestuous five-year relationship. That decision came after three weeks of hearings where the court heard claims and counter-claims from both Depp and Heard about violent outbursts they accused each other of having.
Sue The Sun
Johnny Depp had gone to the London court to Sue The Sun and one of their journalists over an article where they stated that he was violent towards Heard.
Nicol’s verdict
Nicol’s had ruled that Johnny Depp was guilty despite there being evidence from police officers, Heard’s former assistant and several other witnesses that undermined her evidence. After Nicol’s verdict, Depp was asked to leave the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, the movie spin-offs from the “Harry Potter” books and films.
