TOKYO.- According to the government Japan will begin releasing more than a million cubic meters of treated radioactive water from the wrecked Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean in two years.
Controlled releases
These controlled releases are expected to last decades. The plan was condemned by China’s foreign ministry and South Korea said that it posed a risk to the marine environment and the safety of neighbouring countries. However, the US said that the approach appeared to be in Liné with global standards.
Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said that, “Disposing of the treated water is an unavoidable issue for decommissioning the Fukushima nuclear power plant.”
