A second outbreak of avian flu has been detected in the North West province, only a week after it was discovered at a commercial layer farm in the east of Johannesburg.

South African Poultry Association
The South African Poultry Association reported that an outbreak of the highly contagious H5 virus has been detected on a broiler breeder farm in the North West. The farm has had to cull 7000 broiler breeder birds.
The association said that the birds’ remains have been sent to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Research Institute for analysis.
