JOHANNESBURG.- Health minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize has seeked to alleviate fears following the detection of two new Covid-19 variants.
B.1.1.7 strain
According to Mkhize, the country’s scientists have sequenced a coronavirus test from travellers and 11 cases came back positive for the B.1.1.7 strain that was first detected in the UK and 4 cases were positive for the B.1.617.2 strain from India.
He said that the 4 cases have been isolated and that they were detected in patients from Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, all of whom had a history of travelling from India.
