US cable network NBC is the latest media giant planning on boycotting the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) over a lack of diversity.
Golden Globes awards ceremony
NBC, which has aired the Golden Globes awards ceremony since 1996, has said that it would not broadcast the show in 2022 unless it sees a “meaningful reform”.
WarnerMedia, Netflix and Amazon Studio’s have already refused to participate in HFPA-related events.
The HFPA, whose members vote on the awards presented at the Golden Globes, has faced months of criticism after a report in the Los Angeles Times in February that revealed the HFPA has not had a single black member for 20 years.
Several celebrities have become involved in the chorus of outrage, including Tom Cruise who returned the three HFPA Golden Globes he has won over the years.
