Andries Levi Pretorius (30), businessman and husband of actress Simone Nortmann, explains why they chose to post a picture of the back of their newborn’s head, instead of a full-face picture, on Instagram after months of anticipation from fans.
Although the little girl was born on 3 May 2021 Pretorius announced her arrival on Thursday with a side profile picture showcasing the little girl’s head full of hair.
Pretorius posted a picture of their new baby on Instagram.
One Instagram follower was very upset about the mysterious photo and commented, “Every day we saw the pregnancy photos. We followed the entire pregnancy. We were so excited when the day finally arrived. But all we got was a photo of the back of a baby’s head. Just then and there I lost all interest in following this journey. Not nice.”

Pretorius, who saw the comment, shared the comment on his Instagram stories to his almost 24,000 followers. Fans then rushed to his wife’s profile to defend the couple’s decision. “As parents it is Andries and Simone’s choice when they want to reveal the baby. If they plan on doing it, they will do it in their own way,” one said.
He now says they wanted to have a few days only for themselves. “We just announced the arrival of our little girl, Harper. We just wanted a few days alone with her.”
Pretorius made a comment on Instagram saying the first two weeks were a whirlwind. “We are getting the hang of parenting. Thanks for everyone’s well wishes.”
Pretorius, who started his career at Grindrod in 2014, gained notability after starting online real estate tech start-up webuyprop amongst other ventures.
